What is Hydro Excavation?

Hydro Excavation is the process of removing or moving soil with pressurized water. An air conveyance or vacuum is then used to transfer the soil or debris to a debris tank. This allows for a non-destructive and more accurate way to excavate soil and locate underground utilities.

Hydro excavation equipment combines high-pressure water with air vacuum. This system cuts through the soils and breaks it up. The vacuum then lifts the slurry from the excavation area. The debris is transferred to a debris tank.

Using hydro excavation avoids damage to underground pipes, lines and cables. This in turn eliminates the high expenses needed for repairs and restoration. Needing to do fewer repairs means less time to get the job done too.

Let A to Z Statewide Plumbing handle the proper disposal.

Catch Basin Repair – Storm Drain Basin Repairs

storm drain cleaning

What does Catch Basin mean? A catch basin is a device or receptacle at the entrance of a sewer designed to prevent obstructive material from entering and blocking the sewer. In addition, catch basin can be described as a buried diversion device acting as a reservoir that diverts offsite/overland water flows in a sewer system.

Catch basins, further explained, are the grated “storm drains” seen on the side of roadways and in other locations – may be installed under state, county or other municipal construction projects.

Catch basins can also be installed in areas of private lands or roads to prevent precipitation events from covering the lands or roadways with water. These reservoirs catch drainage water or storm runoff to prevent flooding.

What is a Storm Drain?

The storm drain system helps prevent floods by diverting rainwater into nearby waterways. During rainstorms, water runs off of buildings, roads, and other hard surfaces, picking up trash and pollutants along the way. The water and pollutants flow into storm drains and through underground pipes directly into the nearest stream, pond or water reservoir.

In addition, a storm drain or storm sewer is designed to drain excess rain and ground water from impervious surfaces such as paved streets, car parks, parking lots, footpaths, sidewalks, and roofs. Storm drains vary in design from small residential dry wells to large municipal systems.

Storm drains are often unable to manage the quantity of rain that falls during heavy rains and/or storms. When storm drains are inundated, basement and street flooding can occur. In many areas, detention tanks are required to be installed inside a property and are used to temporarily hold rainwater runoff during heavy rains and restrict the outlet flow to the public sewer. This lessens the risk of the public sewer being overburdened during heavy rain. Some storm drains lead to a mixing of storm water (rainwater) with sewage, either intentionally – in the case of combined sewers – or unintentionally.
